We want to start off by saying we’re not Mexican food connoisseurs but know the difference between Taco Bell (no offense guys) and Mexican food. Our friends have been telling us we have to try the Birria Taco’s from Aloha Mamacita for weeks now…a local food truck that frequents Geiger Community Park in Ewa. So when we heard they were going to be in Waikele this past Sunday we gave it a go.
Let me tell you…the hype is real. We got the Birria Bao’s and Birria Tacos and headed home. When we got home the tacos were still warm but had been sitting for roughly 20 minutes. Bao’s were my favorite of the two…I’ve never had anything like it. Soft, warm, tasty! Basically the closest thing to a savory taco I can imagine. The tacos were good too…but I’m sure I would have liked them more if I ate them fresh from the truck. Both plates came with a Birria dipping sauce (sorry not sure if that’s what it’s called). It had a little kick but nothing too crazy. Good flavor and really went well with both items.
As far as prices go, it was $15 for three Birria Tacos and $16 for three Birria Baos. Honestly a smidge on the high side but definitely worth it in our opinion. We love supporting small local business and Aloha Mamacita is one to remember. We’ll be back for more…you can bet on it.
